Description

Shilajit is a sticky tar-like resinous exudate pressed out from the layers of rock on cliffs of Himalayan mountains at an altitude above 3000m. It is a decomposed plant materials that is high in humic substances and minerals. Shilajit in sanskrit means “Conqueror of Mountains and Destroyer of Weakness”. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 5000 years and is special component of many ayurvedic formula. Shilajit resin is extracted from the cliff rocks following traditional ayurvedic principles. Fulvic and humic mineral complexes found in purified Shilajit contains more than 85 vital minerals in bioactive, ionic, form that our body can utilize effectively. In ayurveda, it is believed that, there is no diseases that shilajit cannot cure in the universe when it is combined with the right foods at right time. Recent studies, in health benefits of fulvic acid, now are starting to acknowledge this what yogis had known for millennia.

Main components of purified shilajit is fulvic and humic acid as carriers of Dibenzo-alpha pyrones, phospholipids, triterpenes, phenolic acids, iron, zinc, copper, along with more than 80 minerals. Shilajit has a distinctive smell that resembles cow urine and has a complex taste with a of mixture of pungent, bitterness and astringent. In Ayurveda, shilajit is known as a “Yoga Vaha”, meaning that it has the ability to enhance the absorption and effectiveness of other herbs or supplements. Shilajit is also know as adaptogenic supplement, meaning it helps the body adapt or process both internal and external stressors. It has been used for thousands of years to fight stress and fatigue, while rejuvenating and regenerating tired cells.

Method of Purification

First raw shilajit rocks are dissolved in RO water for 5 days, then, only the lighter molecular weight (high fulvic acids) part of the dissolved shilajit is separated. After that, agnitapi (heating) is done below 60 degree C to evaporate excess water and precipitate heavy metals. This process takes about 10 days for a batch of 100kg shilajit rocks. Then suryatapi (sun drying) is done for at least 2 months to skim off resin continuously. Filtration of humins and undissolved particles are done in each and every steps through out the process. No milk, cow urine or any other herbs are used in the process like what many processors do here in Nepal.
